The action crime thriller went on to become Universal Picture’s highest grossing franchise of all time, and Paul - playing the reluctant undercover cop Brian O’Conner investigating hijackers using high-performance race cars - was catapulted into International Stardom. THE AKIRA STORY / ANATOMY OF A FASHION SHOW / fashionindustrybroadcast.com

09:49
THE AKIRA ISOGAWA DOCUMENTARY Isogawa was born on December 25, 1964 into a Kyoto family where tradition was everything, discipline was high, expectations were fierce and much remained unsaid. Isogawa’s father, Hisao, belonged to a clan that was profoundly protective of its bloodline. Isogawas had lived in the same location for hundreds of years but male heirs were in short supply. With Akira being a gay man, the birth of Akira’s brother, Takeshi, in 1960 was “a big deal”, marking the first child of its generation who could carry on the family line. Akira grew up surrounded by kimonos, uninterested in sport preferring to spend his time drawing. Unlike your garden variety fashion auteur Akira seems unfazed by fame, nor remotely interested in fortune. Everything he makes is done from start to finish in his Marrickville atelier. There is a sense of the ancient in the fabrics he chooses, but a clean modernity in the shapes of the ensembles he creates. He is a living embodiment of the spirit of Kyoto, where the ancient coexists alongside the hyper modern. Akira is an anachronism in the world of high fashion. Unlike the other attention seeking peacocks and flamboyant provocateurs taking their bows on the world stage he remains shy, softly spoken and humble. In fashion he is the ultimate outsider. He appears uninterested in trends, or the amount of followers he has on social media. Just an artist surrounded by fragments of beauty trying to piece them and the meaning of life together. This year Fashion Industry Broadcast decided to cover Sydney’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2018 by imbedding itself and its film team with 3 of the most notable labels about to show. We tracked their intimate journeys to the runway. Sharing their processes, their highs and their lows as the designers and their creative teams prepared for Fashion Week. In this world first ‘Anatomy of a Fashion Show’ series, FIB gives you a never before seen look at the three very different Australian fashion phenomenons that are Akira, 10 PIECES and new comer I.AM.GIA. SØLVE SUNDSBØ FIB 5 Minute Web-Doco MASTERS OF PHOTOGRAPHY Vol. 50 "Living Legends"

Sølve Sundsbø is a Norwegian photographer with a wide repertoire of innovative photographs under his belt. Legendary fashion icon Tom Ford cannot speak highly enough of him. “Sølve is a great talent in the fashion industry,” he says. “His photographs speak for themselves. They are powerful, beautiful, always fresh, and I am lucky to have worked with him over the past decade.” Sundsbø’s portfolio reads like a who’s who of luxury designers – Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Gucci, Hermès, Bally and Armani – and is responsible for the covers of high-profile publications like Vogue, Dazed & Confused, Pop, and many others. He has also branched out into short films, teaming up with Alexander McQueen to produce a piece for the Florence Biennale. Despite his versatility, it’s easy to spot a Sundsbø image. His pictures look digitally altered, though they are quite the contrary. “People assume my work has been through a computer but actually I also use a lot of old fashioned techniques,” he says. Concept holds more value for Sundsbø, rather than the final image – giving him more in common with a fine artist than slick fashion snapper. James Dean / FIB 5 minute Web-doco. Style Icons Vol 1 "Golden Boys"

05:05
James Dean sped through life not looking back for a moment. He is memorialised as the poster child for living life on the edge. Teenagers all over identified with his Go Against the Norm attitude. Although his life was cut short, his legacy endures in his three films, East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause and Giant, all leading roles. He was the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nominations for Best Actor and remains the only actor to have had two posthumous acting nominations. He is ranked in the top twenty best male movie stars by the American Film Institute. James was born in Marion, Indiana to Winton Dean and Mildred Wilson. By all accounts, his childhood was not a happy one. He was robbed of his mother by cancer when he was only nine years old. His father was unable for care for him and sent to live with his aunt in Fairmount, Indiana. It was later reported that the pastor that he had sought sanctuary in, and had been such an influence in his future interests, sexually abused him. There was no peace for James in his early life. He was audacious in life. He struck out on his own, daring himself to success. He lived life on the edge. He worked from pay check to pay check. He surprised the cast and crew with his exceptional talent. Many of his scenes in East of Eden were unscripted. His unique, astonishing choices for key moments in the film made the final cut. He was unafraid, unapologetic when it came to his life. His role of Jim Stark in Rebel Without a Cause exemplified that. His daredevil lifestyle translated into his work. He developed an interest in a career in race car driving. Before filming started for Rebel Without a Cause he competed in his first professional event. He received first place in the novice class and second place at the main event. His Live Fast mentality would inspire generations to come. James is seen as an icon due to his experimental perspective on life which created an ambivalent sexual identity. His true orientation is hotly debated. He would say “No, I am not a homosexual. But I’m also not going to go through life with one hand tied behind my back.” On September 30th 1955, while driving on U.S. Route 466, James Dean was in a head-on collision. His mechanic survived with a broken jaw and other injuries. Dean was not so lucky. He was taken to Paso Robles War Memorial Hospital and announced dead on arrival. The highway was later realigned to make the intersection safer. James Dean is buried in Park Cemetery in Fairmount, Indiana. Film by : Kyrios Ho
Azzedine Alaia Special Short Feature Film MASTERS OF FASHION

07:25
Azzedine Alaïa – In Memoriam In 2017 the world lost one of its leaders in the field of fashion design. Azzedine Alaïa’s death has sparked a public outpour of sentiments lamenting his life and contributions to the arts. The French-Tunisian Designer was a game changer, succeeding under his own unique business practice and turning out design after design of ground-breaking and beautiful female apparel. His physicality and affable energy made him a great subject for photographers often posing him in contrast to his towering models, though he preferred his work to be in focus. In honour of that, FIB pays respectful tribute to the life work of Azzedine Alaïa through the eyes of the people, the photographers and film makers who captured him at his best – in his moment of creation. WERNER SCHREYER / FIB 5 Minute Web Doco TOP MODEL Vol 66 Male Legends

04:44
One of the top icons of the male modelling industry, Werner Schreyer is a trailblazer, paving the way for male models everywhere. Throughout his two decade spanning career, he has worked with some of the most prestigious photographers and fashion designers and modelled for some of the most recognisable campaigns globally. Born on March 10 1970 in Vienna, Schreyer likes the simple but active life, telling World of Models that he loves “sports, soccer, martial arts, mountain biking, running and nature.” Following his graduation from the European School of Economic and Social Sciences in Vienna, Schreyer was kindly told by his mother that it was time to get out of the apartment and into the real world. Lacking direction himself, his mother suggested modelling as everything he wore seemed tailor made for him. This served as the catalyst for Schreyer and he joined a modelling agency in Austria before quickly going global. A new star was born. ALBERT WATSON FIB 5 Minute Web-Doco MASTERS OF PHOTOGRAPHY Vol. 50 "Living Legends"

You may know Albert Watson as the only photographer Steve Jobs considered for his portrait in the late Apple founder's self-titled, 2011 biography. Despite being blind in one eye, Watson has been at the forefront of fashion and commercial photography for the last four decades. Watson alone has shot more than 200 Vogue covers around the world. His portraiture work spans across some of the most famous royal figures, rock stars, movie stars and celebrities – his first being a portrait of Alfred Hitchcock in 1973, holding a dead goose with a ribbon around its neck, for the Harper's Bazaar Christmas issue of that year. The image has become one of Watson’s most famous, amongst a long list of now-iconic photographs that even include President Clinton and Queen Elizabeth II. The photo industry bible, Photo District News, named Watson as one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time. Now a new Italian stylist and photographer duo is making quite the stir on ‘Checking Invoices’ Instagram with their Lee Bowery inspired 'morhpsuits'. RENEGADES OF FASHION - NEW 11 EPISODE NETFLIX SERIES

02:48
Without the Renegade fashion designers featured in this Series – those who saw the contemporary landscape of fashion and refused to comply – fashion would have stagnated years ago. Renegades, no matter their talent, perspective, or cause, are those who refuse to be content with the confines of the box society deems appropriate for all. Renegades are the dreamers, the rebels, the auteurs, without whom culture could have never flourished. Outside of fashion these are the men and women who protested on behalf of millions of oppressed people; created the concepts of democracy; revolutionised the world through scientific discoveries that placed them directly in the line of fire but persevered for the betterment of human kind. There is undoubtedly danger in the act of being a renegade – to stray from the settled herd in search of new and uncertain ideals – but when they are capable of engaging with the wider public they can inspire society to new awakenings to which there is no return. Renegades shape the course of human history, regardless of their chosen field – and fashion is no exception to the rule. The designers in this Series are the ones who chose to ignore industry conventions. Our Renegades held a singular vision and refused to yield to anyone who told them different – and in standing their ground they revolutionised the fashion industry in their own way, winning the admiration of millions of people around the world and inspiring dozens of future designers down the line.
