Should ultra-skinny models be banned? The fashion industry claims it is being unfairly pillaged for the ‘size 0’ phenomenon. But self regulation has done little to weed out emaciated models.
“They have to understand that being thin is our job”, states one size 0 model. But following the death of anorexic model, Ana Carolina Reston, designers are coming under pressure not to use skinny models. Spain banned ultra-thin models from Madrid Fashion Week after complaints they encouraged anorexia. “We didn’t want teenagers to think excessive slimness is a model of beauty”, explains organizer Cuca Solana. But other fashion capitals refuse to follow Spain’s lead. “The whole size 0 thing has come from Hollywood not the catwalks”, complains Hilary Riva, Chief Executive of London Fashion Week. “It’s too simplistic to blame fashion.”

Fashion is absolutely c the problem. I worked for design company. Prepared for fashion shows. The garments are made and the models are to fit into not the other way around. They talk about the girls like mannequins. I would never want to be a model. It is not as glamorous like you think. It takes no skills to walk with clothes on or off.
Both myself and my Daughter have chosen not to purchase clothes that are modelled by a ultra skinny model because we are not able to get an idea of what the clothes will look like.... I am a size 16 , my Daughter is a 12
LOOK AT 15:15 WHERE THE AUSSIE B*TCH IS BLAMING THE PEOPLE FROM AFRICA/KENYA /SOMALIA !!!???? WTF DOES SHE MEAN ??THEY ARE THIN BECAUSE THEY ARE STARVING? .... THAT`S FROM FAMINE /LACK OF FOOD NOT A FASHION CHOICE !!!..... WHAT THE HELL`S THAT GOT TO DO WITH SIZE 0 TEENAGE GIRLS HAVING TO STARVE THEMSELVES TO KEEP THEIR JOBS BECAUSE THEY ARE TOLD THEY ARE TOO FAT AND WON`T GET ANY WORK IF THEY DON`T!! ..THE WOMAN`S A TOTAL LUNATIC !!!....AND THE FASHION INDUSTRY IS A VERY ,VERY SICK WORLD INDEED !!!....ARGH !
SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SHEEP IF SOME IDIOT DESIGNERS IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY TOLD WOMEN IT WAS THE NEXT NEW THING TO CUT OFF ONE EAR LOBE BECAUSE IT WAS CHIC ..THEY WOULD ....!! THAT IS WHY WE ARE SUBJECTED TO WALKING SKELETONS AS A MEASURE OF BEAUTY ITS SOOO SICK! PEOPLE LITERALLY STARVING IS NOT A PRETTY SIGHT ...PEOPLE NEED TO START TO WAKE UP AND START THINKING FOR THEMSELVES...!
Girls, look at those models in the video. Even if they don't eat much, they still have a fat ass. So eat up and do exercise regularly. There's only one Kate Moss and only one Gisele Bundchen on the mother Earth.
Models with a thighgap from here to tokio size zero xxx or xx, heroinechicklook went a trend in the beginning of the nineties. I think that it is their natural bodystructure. Some are natural lean. .It"s not my taste. Some think that it can trigger to eatingdisorders. .
Life can be hard, they can make and break you. You can go by the flow or go. You can go, or go on diet to get very skinny. Some photo"s are shocking. Some modelagencys like this are perverted and rotten. This is not healthy animore. Kills youth who are in the blossom of their life. The industry is very hard and it is all about money, and it is not going for your wellbeing and health. It causes much of stress. When you are not naturally lean you can starve to get lean and when you don"t do this you can get fired. It should be forbidden and it is criminal and can be a trigger to starviation. I hope cury models will be a new trend for a better and healthier influence. This can trigger to anorexia. Pushes influenceble young people over the line. Cruel like nero size zero. At the cost of young life. Life is nothing worth in the modelindusty and that makes it hard.
I love looking skinny. No one needs all that extra weight. The U.S. has too many crappy fast food joints that are killing people. A U.S. obesity survey done in 2008 found 32.2% of men were obese and 35.5% of women were obese. I don't know which is worse starving to death or dropping dead from a stroke.
You can forget about being a real high fashion model with a BMI over 18. It's just not gonna fly with high end designers. Being 5'9 or 5'10 and having maximum 60 cm around your waist won't make a BMI of 18.
It's true, me my cousin we were thin at 14 15 even 16 I started to gain more weight around 18 years old my cousin still to this day is thin after two kids so Is not right at all they should have as close as possible to normal women and men and age should 18 years old, NEVER before thatThe people that buy the clothing are women not girlsSo please I hope this craziness this madness shifty people who chose these GIRLS , they are nothing more than girls which a lot like me only had they re period at 14 or 15 years oldHow can you people have kids modeling grown women cloths , and another thing most women who buy are at least 30 years old and older because they got to a point at their life's where they finally can afford them , the younger ones who buy it's usually the parents who are rich etc.. But only after college or school and after working a few years only then a woman is more settled maybe an apartment a husband so both share the bills and so then the ladies and the gentleman are able to afford more but never almost never before that.....One knows this they think us grown women fall for this shit hell noOnly ones to suffer from this to have low self esteem are of course girls and boys adolescents and why? They re life is still a dreamy one they know nothing of the real world most don't so what they do?Start these horrible diets which is more self destruction and are constantly asking mom and dad to buy them these expensive clothing of course , as soon as one wakes up turns tv on computer on, cellular son they are bombarded with THESE anorexic disturbing looking models The people who hire them , maybe it's the designers are the ones who want these anorexic people they are the ones to blameIf their kids were close to dying with an ED I'm sure they would stop but because their back yard is multi million industry , it's great for millions of little girls as young as 6 or 8 to start wanting to lose weight to look like these models who sometimes die along the way , I hear of one or two every single YEARIn my time we looked up to Cindy Crawford or Naomi Campbell or Tyra banks or others who looked more like these gymnasts with some curves but today???? Very very very dangerous you stupid idiots who own the fashion industry want the models to look like a they are living in a starving concentration camp it's just horrific they look like they re about to faint on the run wayMen too I see a few men who are taking dieting and exercise waaaaaaayyyyy too far!!!!!It's p to us to say NO too if we say no they have no customersI love the ones they cal plus size models to me they are normal NOT super size AT ALL they are beautiful extremely healthy looking I mean I see some who don't even need make up because they have a natural glow and rosy cheeks and lips they are the natural looking womanI now only buy from them from designers who chose plus size models and my kids agree too they see how beautiful they are they love it!!!
this disgusting australian freak really threw africans under the bus...for a) environmental issues + b)the fucking effects of global warming + neoimperialism (global north drives global warming and the global south suffers w/extreme weather). like this dumb bitch is so fucking vile. shes not even thin like how much selfhatred and racism can one person be filled with??
I love how they want to blame America when we obviously have an overweight problem lol I don’t look at actresses or ppl in Hollywood and say they are too thin. I’m a nurse and see 40+ BMI’s almost everyday. The designers like how clothes look on emaciated girls and most of the high end designers are from Europe. So don’t try and blame the “western world”.
As models we are hangers, but 99% people are not hangars buying the product seeing the hangers? So looking at the clothes on hangers buying them and later at home discovers that these clothes are totally different on your body because you are not the hanger it is cultivating anger towards this deception?
Of course the industry is to blame. Designers' catwalk samples models wear are a scrimpy French Size 2 at most. Most of the big-name designers are gay men and they're obsessed with skinny teenage boys. Their clothing is made for stick figures, not shapely women.
Okay so western culture is to blame for anorexia and obesity, I hope they make up their minds, supersize vs superskinny in the UK blames their obesity problem on the US and this show says their anorexia problem is also due to the US....pick one smh
ABIMA It isn't supposed to be realistic. It's supposed to be lean, tall, and elegant to show off the clothes. Also, Designers cannot customize their clothing for various body types, so there must be a universal shape for models.
Yeah, I am an American size 4 and I am considered too fat for modeling. It really a farce to say the fashion industry doesn't perpetuate the ultra skinny model preferences, but its not the only reason. Western society embraces these norms and it is seen as 'just the way it is.' The fact that modeling has ANYONE dying for their career says there is a problem. One does not hear about other professions having these types of problems.
Another problem is price. Bigger people need more fabric, it can be expensive. A human body that is larger needs twice as much moisturizer as a slim one. Everything costs more. And yes, I have an eating disorder.
Could that Aussie designer be anymore fuckin stupid.. Good for Spain for taking a stance and hopefully changing the movement in the fashion industry. Yes people come in all shapes and sizes and it's resfreshing to see that in the fashion industry instead of being shamed for being to "fat" and just like that young girl said the majority of the high end lables are def to blame who refuse to make bigger sizes and constantly turn away modles for being bigger than a size 0. Which is sad cause they could truely make a difference for the right reasons but chose not to truely address the real situation. That other designer was a strong example by telling her rep to advise the reporter not to ask these questions. I myself was appalled working in the fashion industry for many different reasons.. it's a luv hate relationship
The problem isn't skinny people, the problem is that the people in charge allow anorexic girls to work, encourage it, and don't accept a range of healthy sizes. There needs to be a range of bodies, not a certain type of body banned.
Because the clothing is about whom they are selling to. These clothes cost a fortune. Most of the buyers are wealthy women with access, and time and money to work out with personal trainers, have plastic surgery, liposuction. This expensive clothing hangs better, and looks better on thin women. What do people expect, them to march overweight women down the catwalk? It’s a psychological sales pitch. It’s all about selling am image...for women to aspire to look like these women if they buy the clothing. The fashion world has their hands in our pockets, and depends on our insecurities for sales. Don’t like it? Don’t buy the stuff...from clothes to makeup. Seems, though, with the mob scenes every year, at fashion weeks all over the world, that there won’t be any change any time soon.
I'M SO SORRY AND VERY SAD TOO HERE, OF THAT POOR GIRLS THAT PASSED AWAY, THAT'S SO SAD TO HERE, SO SAD, A PERSON SHOULDNT DIE TO HAVE A CAREER, THAT SHOULDN'T BE, THIS WAS A VERY EDUCATING VEDIO FOR US INSPIREING MODELS, I TO I'M A INSPIREING MODEL, YES, I PRAY THE INDUSTRY CHANGE THE MODEL SIZE GUILD LINES, THAT WOULD BE SO WONDERFUL, FOR EVERY MODEL WHERE THERE I'SEN'T SO MUCH PRESURE TOO STARVE OR BE UN-HEALTHY. IN SIZE, THANK YOU FOR THIS VEDIO, THANK YOU, I PRAY ALL THE MODELS STAY HEALTHY, WELL, SAFE, SAFE AND SAFE, AND STAYING ALIVE, AN STAY TRULEY BLESSED IN EVERY WAY, AMEN AMEN.
Its funny cause she talks about naturally skinny and u can watch at 4:38 she is just skin and bones. Even with that coat she looks unhealthy even when that piece of clothing makes people look more voluminous
Wtf is that designer saying at the end? Well, yeah A lot of African countries are dealing with hunger and we should be worried about it, and try to help and all, but it doesn't mean that we should just let these young girls deal with anorexia and another eating disorders because of this industry's standarts. So the designers should stop and take responsibility for their actions and what kind of image they're promoting, and not just diverse the attention to Hunger in Africa.
An analysis of representative literature concerning the widely recognized ineffective learning of "place-value" by American children arguably also demonstrates a widespread lack of understanding of the concept of place-value among elementary school arithmetic teachers and among researchers themselves. Just being able to use place-value to write numbers and perform calculations, and to describe the process is not sufficient understanding to be able to teach it to children in the most complete and efficient manner.
A conceptual analysis and explication of the concept of "place-value" points to a more effective method of teaching it. However, effectively teaching "place-value" (or any conceptual or logical subject) requires more than the mechanical application of a different method, different content, or the introduction of a different kind of "manipulative". First, it is necessary to distinguish among mathematical 1) conventions, 2) algorithmic manipulations, and 3) logical/conceptual relationships, and then it is necessary to understand each of these requires different methods for effective teaching. And it is necessary to understand those different methods. Place-value involves all three mathematical elements.
Practice versus Understanding.
Almost everyone who has had difficulty with introductory algebra has had an algebra teacher say to them "Just work more problems, and it will become clear to you. You are just not working enough problems." And, of course, when you cant work any problems, it is difficult to work many of them. Meeting the complaint "I cant do any of these" with the response "Then do them all" seems absurd, when it is a matter of conceptual understanding. It is not absurd when it is simply a matter of practicing something one can do correctly, but just not as adroitly, smoothly, quickly, or automatically as more practice would allow. Hence, athletes practice various skills to make them become more automatic and reflexive; students practice reciting a poem until they can do it smoothly; and musicians practice a piece until they can play it with little effort or error. And practicing something one cannot do very well is not absurd where practice will allow for self-correction. Hence, a tennis player may be able to work out a faulty stroke himself by analyzing his own form to find flawed technique or by trying different things until he arrives at something that seems right, which he then practices. But practicing something that one cannot even begin to do or understand, and that trial and error does not improve, is not going to lead to perfection or --as in the case of certain conceptual aspects of algebra-- any understanding at all.
